Primary Function:

This role is a member of the Product Information team playing a significant role in ensuring Grainger produces and cleanses world class product information leading to outstanding merchandising outcomes for our customers. The PI Ops Supervisor will manage the Product Information Analyst team who are responsible for the day-to-day activities curating, managing and improving product information across multiple workflows. They will be responsible for the quality of this information ultimately presented to the customer to aid them in a purchasing decision. They will provide direction, guidance and oversight to support and coach the Product Information Analyst in their day-to-day activities, including, but not limited to, attribute and list-of-value (LOV) creation, data gathering through third party vendors, Pod engagement, normalization and quality assurance.

Our pods (cross-functional team, consisting of Product Information, Merchandising, Supplier Management and Publishing team resources) are responsible for bringing together all the merchandising efforts in our key workstreams to ensure great outcomes for our customers.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Manage team member assignments, delegate tasks appropriately and effectively, and distribute workload to team members in the best position for success
  • Monitor and report on team member performance, including mid-year and annual performance reviews
  • Mentor, coach and support team members to ensure successful completion of deliverables to business partners
  • Ensure all deliverables to business partners meet PI quality standards
  • Monitor and ensure the quality of work for team member activities that relate to attribute and/or data curation:
    • Validate product information research, analysis, and implementation
    • Document team member quality issues and provide appropriate courses of action for resolution
    • Communicate with internal business partners and external vendors
    • Ensuring implementation of internal PI and external feedback
  • Lead, and assist in the definition and appropriate capture, publishing and maintenance of attribute values
  • Provide data cleansing and normalization requirements/recommendations based on category research and PI data standards
  • Provide support for tracking, validating, and analyzing data changes due to ongoing maintenance
  • Assist Product Information Analyst in decision making of complex product information problems
  • Understand and assist in the communication to the Pod: of the impact of product information strategies as part of category review and new product additions.
  • Ensure timely feedback to team members, understand and track the type of feedback to each team member and ensure these themes are communicated to the broader leadership team for additional training needs

Job Requirements

Preferred Education & Experience: 

  • 3+ years’ experience in information architecture, taxonomies, ontologies, product information, product content and other related digital UX disciplines
  • BS/BA degree in engineering, library sciences, or other data related field is preferred
  • Experience with e-commerce and digital initiatives
  • Working knowledge of business strategies including B2B customer requirements with maintenance of manufacturing processes, operation and application of industrial products is ideal and product information (knows the business)
  • General understanding of Product Master Data Management and Governance
  • Ability to drive action through the activity of others in order to reach stated objectives. Also provides team members with constructive feedback relative to performance and personal development. (leadership/developing self and others)
  • Demonstrated experience in driving results through a diverse set of dependency-laden processes and problem solving (results-driven)
  • Able to communicate instructions in a clear, concise fashion
  • Great verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to multiple technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience working in environments with aggressive deadlines and production environments
  • Data analysis and reporting experience

Work Environment:  

  • Up to 20% domestic travel
    • Includes Supplier and Customer visits
  • <5% Global
    • Potential for travel to:  United States, Panama

Impact:

Strategic foundational role for creating and maintaining product information and communicating and ensuring quality of processes centered around the company’s product information assets.     Must maintain quality and standards for data. Responsible for ensuring third party vendors and staff meet tight deadlines while meeting quality standards for the rapid development of the company’s website.

Working Relationships:

External:

  • Service Providers: We will utilize any number of third-party providers in the development of product information and content. Must clearly define the needs for third party providers and ensure quality and timely delivery of outsourced work to our standards and service level agreement.
  • Must be able to work effectively with global resources

Internal:

  • Team members across MSM, including but not limited to: Merchandising, Publishing and Supplier Management
  • All Grainger Product Information team members to ensure data standards, integrity and quality
